Martial arts community involvement was on full display during Choe’s HapKiDo’s 8th Annual Kick-A-Thon on April 18. Students, families, instructors, sponsors, and community members came together to support Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA), raising an incredible $7,338.50 for the organization. The annual Kick-A-Thon has become an important tradition at Choe’s HapKiDo. Beyond developing confidence, discipline, and self-defense skills, students learn the importance of serving others and making a positive impact in their communities.
Students and Families Rally for a Great Cause
The 8th Annual Kick-A-Thon brought together students of all ages with a common goal: supporting children and families served by CHOA. Through fundraising efforts, pledges, and community support, participants helped create another successful event while learning the importance of giving back.
Each year, in the weeks leading up to the Kick-A-Thon, students reach out to family members, friends, neighbors, teachers, and local businesses for pledges and donations. On the day of the event, students gather at Choe’s HapKiDo locations throughout Georgia and kick their hearts out for the cause. Together, those efforts become a donation that is presented to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
One of the most rewarding parts of the Kick-A-Thon is seeing communities come together to support a shared purpose. The generosity of neighbors, local businesses, family members, and friends creates a sense of connection that extends far beyond the event itself. For students, especially those who may have felt nervous about asking for support, the experience becomes a powerful lesson in confidence, leadership, and service.
The Kick-A-Thon gives students a chance to see how a small effort can become something much bigger when a community comes together. What begins as asking for a pledge or donation can ultimately help support children and families facing difficult circumstances, making the experience meaningful for everyone involved.
Why Choe’s HapKiDo Supports CHOA
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta has been serving children and families for more than a century. What began in 1915 as a small hospital in Decatur with just 20 beds has grown into Georgia’s only freestanding pediatric healthcare system, serving nearly one million patient visits each year.
Families throughout Georgia rely on CHOA’s hospitals, clinics, and specialty programs. In 2023 alone, the organization provided more than $196 million in unreimbursed clinical care, helping ensure children receive the care they need. CHOA is also recognized for specialized programs in areas including cancer and blood disorders, heart care, autism services, orthopedics, sports medicine, and neurosciences, drawing families from across the state and beyond.
As a nonprofit organization, CHOA depends on community support to help advance its mission and meet the growing needs of children and families. That mission is one reason Choe’s HapKiDo proudly supports CHOA through our annual Kick-A-Thon.
Thank You to Our Sponsors
A successful fundraiser requires the support of many people, and this year’s Kick-A-Thon was no exception. Choe’s HapKiDo would like to thank all sponsors, donors, volunteers, and families who contributed to this year’s event.
We would also like to extend a special thank you to Scopewell Solutions and Atlanta Toyota for their generous support as major sponsors of the 8th Annual Kick-A-Thon. Their contributions helped make this year’s fundraiser possible and strengthened the impact of our Martial Arts Community Involvement efforts.

Continuing to Make an Impact
The 8th Annual Kick-A-Thon brought together students, families, sponsors, and supporters for a shared purpose: helping children and families served by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The $7,338.50 raised through this year’s fundraiser reflects the generosity of everyone who contributed and the positive impact that can happen when a community comes together.
Our support of CHOA continues on July 11 at a Gwinnett Stripers game, where a Choe’s HapKiDo’s Demo Team will perform a martial arts demo on the baseball field. Families and supporters who purchase tickets through the event fundraising link will help support CHOA, as a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the organization.
Choe’s HapKiDo is grateful to everyone who participated in this year’s fundraiser and helped make the 8th Annual Kick-A-Thon a success. We are already looking forward to next year’s Kick-A-Thon and future fundraising and outreach opportunities that allow us to continue serving our communities and supporting important causes.
